Skiing in winter or summer snow in the Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada has a world famous skiing station. The “village” lies at an altitude of 2500 meters and from here lifts go up to an altitude of almost 3400 meters. Snow in winter is almost guaranteed, and due to its Southern location and the resulting strength of the sun, skiing in a T-shirt under blue skies is a regular feature here.

The skiing area is fairly large and there are more than 20 lifts to take you up the mountain. Besides, due to its closeness to the beach, this is one of those places where it is easy to combine a morning skiing session, with a relaxing afternoon on the beaches of the Costa Tropical.

In summer, a couple of lifts stay open, so you can get fairly close to the best known peak La Veleta (3396 m). In case that there are a few patches of snow left, you can have a snowball fight before descending back to Granada, where the summer temperature may well be around 40 degrees Celsius!
